The people of St. Anthony on the Lake had worshipped in a school basement space with a very low ceiling, poor acoustics, and a corridor of columns for over forty years. The time for a new worship space was long overdue.
After a needs assessment phase and a year of planning, BIRSCHBACH & Associates, Ltd. designed a master plan to meet their immediate and future needs. Like many parishes, after a fundraising campaign they needed to phase their project; therefore, the completion of the fellowship hall space, additional Christian Formation space, and school renovation was postponed until the summer of 2002.
St. Anthony being situated not far from Pewaukee Lake, the symbol of water was chosen as a unifying theme throughout the worship center. The living water of the font is also prevalent in the stained glass windows and etched glass. A life sized statue of Jesus teaching from the fishing boat greets visitors in the gathering space. As a means of cost savings, a complementary full face split masonry unit was selected as the main structural material with inset bands and panels of brick to match the existing school.
Church dedication was July 31, 1999, and phase II fellowship and school renovation was completed in the fall of 2002.
